Programme for the 2018 O`Leary Clan Gathering

The theme this year is “O`Learys in Australia ”

This programme may change a little later, but only in very minor ways.

Friday 7th

 

2.00 p.m. onwards

Begin arrival and registration. Tea/Coffee*.
Earlier arrivals are welcome.

3.30 p.m.

Visit to the “Store of Memories Museum” in Inchigeelagh.

4.00 p.m.

Tour of Inchigeelagh village with Joe Creedon (about a half mile) with optional extension to River Island park with Diarmuid O Leary (about another half mile). We hope, time and weather permitting, to be able to arrange visits to see Carrignacurra Castle – the last remaining O`Leary Tower House, which is privately owned.

6.00 p.m.

Group Skype calls to O`Learys abroad, set up at Creedon`s Hotel by Patrick W, O`Leary

8.00 p.m.

Welcome speech at Creedon`s Hotel by Joe Creedon.

 

Formal opening address by Eugene O`Leary

8.30 p.m.

Presentation by Dr. Paul Johnson of “The Family History Journal” by the late Colleen O`Leary. An account of her journey tracing her family history and providing a history of Colleen`s particular branch of the O`Leary Clan as it relates to their arriving in Australia.

 

Q and A

 

Short talk “Emigration from Inchigeelagh to Australia in 1913” by Dorothy O`Tuama.

 

Time for discussion.

Music and Song, compere: Joe Creedon

Saturday 8th

 

10.15 a.m.

Group photograph outside Creedon`s Hotel.

10.30 a.m.

Coach leaves for tour. We are hoping to include visits to the following: Gougane Barra, Carriganass Castle (Kealkill), Skibberean Famine Centre

A stop will be made for Lunch*.

5.15 p.m.

Arrive back at Creedon`s Hotel.

 

Free time, for rest, socialise etc.

7.30 p.m.

O`Leary Clan Gala Dinner* at Creedon`s Hotel, includes Speeches and Raffle.

Followed by

Live music, Ceille/ Dance, Entertainment.

Sunday 9th

 

10.00 a.m.

General discussion and Q&A session, including Family research and DNA.

11.00 a.m.

Formal close of the 2018 Gathering.

11.30 a.m.

Mass in Inchigeelagh Church.

 

Visit Inchigeelagh old Church and Graveyard.

1.00 p.m.

Eugene and Diarmuid will be in Creedon`s Hotel for informal discussions with anyone wishing to stay a little longer.

2.30 p.m.

Visit to the” Store of Memories Museum” and drive to the O`Leary Tower House for anyone who missed these on Friday afternoon or wishes to visit again.


Hot food will be available from 8.30 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. at Creedon`s Hotel. The bar will be open until midnight.


Accommodation, meals and refreshments are left to you to arrange except where starred*.

Special dietary requirements should be advised to us as soon as possible.
